my new pet rabbit

of course by “pet”, i mean “2 door hatchback” :]

my new rabbit

long, long overdue, keith has finally bought a new car. i’ve been looking since i moved, but now that i’m finished paying off my debt to my dad, i could afford to get something. the cars on my radar were the mini cooper (duh), volkswagen rabbit, scion tc, honda civic, mitsubishi eclipse, infiniti g35, and bmw 3 series. i ruled out all the expensive ones, because if i’m ever going to go crazy and move to europe or get a cool loft apartment (los!) i’m gonna need some extra cash.

i know what you’re thinking. what? keith didn’t buy a MINI? i chose the rabbit b/c not only was it cheaper, but it was also faster. (i know the mini cooper S is faster, but the way i like it would have been around 25k) i wasnt looking for a sports car, but after living with 90 horsepower all my life, i wanted a little something under the hood. also, alot of stuff comes standard in the rabbit compared to say a civic where you have to pay extra for things like A/C, cd player, and power locks/windows. and it still has that small, european feel to it which i like.

bought it saturday, and took a little joyride in it today. its really fun. i got the automatic transmission b/c thats how i roll. but it comes with that sports shifter thing which can make it feel like a manual if i’m feeling particularly fiesty one day. and there is a “sport automatic” mode where it basically gives you more torque in the lower gears and you jump off the line faster. (or something. i’m a computer nerd, not a car nerd) all i know is that it’s very neat.

but honestly, i’m just happy to have a working A/C again. and it feels good to know that it will be 100% car, rather than 50% car, 50% trashcan. (btw ben, i found that tootsie roll i was holding for you. i donated it to the museum of natural history to be added to the fossil record)

The Hacker’s Diet - v0.9.1

So there were compatibility issues with some SQL statements in the release, so here is an updated copy which (hopefully) fixes that.

I only have MySQL 4.1 to test on, so let me know if there are still problems.

dude, you look really fat in that picture on the elephant.

just fyi, you need to photoshop that shit or something.

trey thought it was some sort of optical illusion or something, but he was right. i was getting fat. by the end of august i couldn’t button my pants and hit 178 lbs at one point. (remember, i’m only 5′6″) well, the hacker’s diet, a few months and 30 pounds later i’m feeling good.

so, hm, weight loss. losing weight is easy. just eat less calories than your body burns in a day; it’s just a big math problem. not eating is the hard part. it helped that every once in a while i would just say “fuck it” and go get fried ice cream and margaritas or eat an entire can of grand’s biscuits. (did you know that has 1600 calories? holy shit!) you know the ironic part? subway is my secret weapon. that’s right, the eatery we all know and love helped big time. i’ve basically eaten subway for lunch everyday for the last 5 months. when you’re counting calories, making somebody else count for you is the way to be. and with those daily deals, i probably saved a bunch of money. (fuck you Tuesday and Friday!)

my weight loss

so now i’m in “maintanence mode” which basically means i still weigh myself everyday and count my calories, but i just get to count more of them. (1700 a day to be exact, up from 1200 on my diet) its kinda funny, the last time i weighed this much was back when i had heartburn so bad i couldnt eat or drink for like 2 weeks.

i actually wrote a wordpress plugin to help me track my weight. it was my first attempt at one and i think it came out pretty well. my next pet project will be to rewrite the plugin as a standalone ruby on rails app, but thats for another post :]
