of course by “pet”, i mean “2 door hatchback” :]
long, long overdue, keith has finally bought a new car. i’ve been looking since i moved, but now that i’m finished paying off my debt to my dad, i could afford to get something. the cars on my radar were the mini cooper (duh), volkswagen rabbit, scion tc, honda civic, mitsubishi eclipse, infiniti g35, and bmw 3 series. i ruled out all the expensive ones, because if i’m ever going to go crazy and move to europe or get a cool loft apartment (los!) i’m gonna need some extra cash.
i know what you’re thinking. what? keith didn’t buy a MINI? i chose the rabbit b/c not only was it cheaper, but it was also faster. (i know the mini cooper S is faster, but the way i like it would have been around 25k) i wasnt looking for a sports car, but after living with 90 horsepower all my life, i wanted a little something under the hood. also, alot of stuff comes standard in the rabbit compared to say a civic where you have to pay extra for things like A/C, cd player, and power locks/windows. and it still has that small, european feel to it which i like.
bought it saturday, and took a little joyride in it today. its really fun. i got the automatic transmission b/c thats how i roll. but it comes with that sports shifter thing which can make it feel like a manual if i’m feeling particularly fiesty one day. and there is a “sport automatic” mode where it basically gives you more torque in the lower gears and you jump off the line faster. (or something. i’m a computer nerd, not a car nerd) all i know is that it’s very neat.
but honestly, i’m just happy to have a working A/C again. and it feels good to know that it will be 100% car, rather than 50% car, 50% trashcan. (btw ben, i found that tootsie roll i was holding for you. i donated it to the museum of natural history to be added to the fossil record)
pictures!
what do you think?

welcome to the dub club. damn fine car for the money. if you would have talked to me i would have done my best to steer you towards a GTI. turbo is wherezat
yeah i looked at the GTI but since its basically the same car but faster i dont feel like i’m missing out on much.
No TDI? :( You obviously hate the environment.
(that’s ok, I hate the environment too)
Good, now drive down here next sunday and play our soccer game…we need good defenders…
Oh good, now you can help Elizabeth and I move at the end of Feb. and actually have some room in your car to move boxes.
it looks really cute. just don’t do something stupid like wreck it 6 months after you got it… i did with mine.
Yeah, please, dont wreck it, or at least have insurance. The loft aint gonna pay for itself!
tyler: don’t tempt me. i have new boots and everything
paul: ha! i live in texas, remember?
stacy, los: i’m mr. careful driver now that i have my new car*
* careful driving does not apply to the following: sharp turns, straightaways, civics with fart cans at stoplights, or anytime my shifter is on “S”
it needs a php sticker. it’s the only way we can know it’s you.
finally got a new car huh. what did you do with the old one?
S? what the hell kind of gear is that?
lindsay: sadly (well not so sadly really) it wouldn’t be very accurate anymore. i’d have to get a .NET or RB sticker
jason: we held a viking funeral in its honor. well…i guess it was less of a viking funeral, and more like pushing the car into a lake.
brian: it’s like “D” but more fun
Congrats. I have a 2004 Jetta 1.8T.
My favorite car in the entire world :)
I love Volkswagens, but man did I get a lemon. Then the guy working on my car at the dealership found my credit card under the seat and bought $500 worth of gas (wth?). I’ll never buy another.
Though, that Eos is pretty nice looking.
My parents had a Rabit from the last year before it changed names to Golf. I’ve heard lots of good things about this new gen, though agree with Drew in GTI if you had the money. I can’t complain though, as I’m just walkin the treads off my boots for transport still. Very good lookin car and if you are lookin for a hackin hobby start talkin to drew about chipping and reprograming the ECU. 1 simple upgrade with hours of enjoyment gettin the most outta yer new toy.
Where da ski pics?
