if 8-bit were an STD, i’d have chla-mario
title runner-up: “my nintendo gave me goomba-rrhea”

i have officially caught the retro fever.
maybe it’s the lack of stellar titles out right now (currently waiting for quake wars beta 2) or the fact that i’ve kinda plateaued with guitar hero. whatever it is, i am totally addicted to the old school again. i picked up nestopia, zsnes, and gens along with a “few” roms to play. it’s amazing how much an 8-bit theme song can stick with you. i was geeking out, big time.
yesterday’s playlist includes:
- excitebike (NES)
- california games (NES)
- chrono trigger (SNES)
- sonic spinball (Genesis)
- phantasy star 4 (Genesis)
soon a nice playstation-to-USB converter from ebay will be making its way to my door and i’ll be playing in style. playing with a keyboard just doesn’t cut it for me. you’re supposed to play with your thumbs! now i just have to think of a more permanent way to play all this on my tv instead of my computer and i’ll be set. it’s a shame my xbox bit the dust on pecan tree, since i know you can use it to do a similar setup.
this has even spilled over into the physical realm. i’m seriously thinking about doing some apartment decorating with pixelblocks and taking one of these big, empty walls and turning it into space invaders. terri isn’t too keen on the latter, but she’ll come around. :]
so what is everybody’s retro “must play” games? i’m looking for suggestions for tonite. :]

contra except it sucks single player. kid icarus is fun for about 5 minutes until i realize how much I suck at it. the mega man series is another one I always play. oh and don’t play tmnt. I remember playing it as a kid so I played it recently…it sucked.
and you don’t have a radio shack there? that’s why I picked up my ps2 -> usb adapter.

i actually think there is with some emulators. i’ve never tried it, but zsnes has a netplay option. i’m trying to think of some awesome games for multiplayer.
street fighter
mortal kombat
streets of rage
ummm….
what was that multiplayer rpg?
also, the one i got off ebay accepts two controllers and cost less :]

@brian: nice. all of my old gear is still at my parents house tho
in other news: the computer in NBA Jam is a fucking cheater. 2 seconds left in overtime and it nails a buzzer beater to defeat jason and i. :[ :[ :[ and, playing street fighter with a keyboard is IMPOSSIBLE. jason was kicking my ass.

my hands are begging for mercy.
so much street fighter alpha 3 that my left thumb is blistering i think.
i wonder if in 10 years we’ll all be reminiscing about “the good old days” of guitar hero, grand theft auto 4, and wii tennis.

Oh Fuck Shit, SFA3 action?! I was thinking of buying SF2Turbo on VC, as it was one of the best. Cant wait for the new Guitly Gears for Wii to bring that badass 2D fighting
